Account control

How to request account and data deletion

You may request deletion through available account settings or by contacting our support team. Email is always available if you cannot access your account or do not see an in-service deletion control.

  1. Email the address associated with your account Send your request to [email protected]. If you no longer control that address, explain that in the message.
  2. Use a clear subject line Use “Account and Data Deletion Request” so the request can be identified and routed correctly.
  3. Identify the account Include the account email address and username. Never send your password, login code, recovery code, or government identification unless we specifically request an appropriate form of verification through a secure process.
  4. Complete verification if required We may need to verify that you control the account before acting. We will confirm completion or explain if information must be retained or a request cannot be fulfilled.

What happens after a deletion request

After we verify an eligible request, we delete or de-identify personal information associated with the account from active systems when reasonably possible. The exact result depends on the type of information, how it was used, whether it was shared with another user, and whether retention is needed for safety, security, legal, or compliance reasons.

Data category Typical action Important details
Account and profile information Deleted or de-identified Account identifiers and profile details are removed from active user-facing systems, subject to the exceptions described below.
Discovery content Removed or de-identified Content under your account is removed or disconnected from your identity where reasonably possible. Copies previously made by other users may remain outside our control.
Matches, preferences, and settings Deleted or de-identified Matching connections, discovery preferences, and account settings are removed from active systems unless an exception applies.
Messages and conversations Deletion reviewed Message data is deleted or de-identified where reasonably possible. Information may remain when another participant retains a copy, a message was reported, or preservation is necessary for safety or legal reasons.
Sessions and account access Disabled Account access is terminated and active sessions or authentication records are invalidated or removed according to their operational lifecycle.
Deletion cannot recall information already received by another person. Someone may have copied, saved, photographed, forwarded, or reposted profile information, discovery content, or messages before your request. Chats Only can act on information within systems we control, but cannot guarantee deletion from another person’s device or an unrelated service.

Information that may be retained

Some information may be retained for a limited or legally required period. Retained information is restricted to the purpose that justifies keeping it and is not kept simply because an account was deleted.

Data category Possible status Why it may remain
Safety and abuse records May be retained To investigate reports, prevent repeated harm, enforce our rules, protect users, or respond to a dispute.
Fraud, security, and technical logs May be retained To detect misuse, protect accounts and systems, investigate incidents, and maintain service reliability.
Legal and compliance records May be retained To comply with applicable law, valid legal process, recordkeeping requirements, or a legal hold.
Support and privacy-request correspondence May be retained To complete the request, document the response, resolve follow-up questions, or demonstrate compliance.
De-identified or aggregated information May remain Information that no longer reasonably identifies you may be used to understand and improve service performance and safety.

Backups and deletion timing

Information removed from active systems may remain temporarily in secured backups until those backups are overwritten through their normal lifecycle. Backup copies are not used to restore a deleted account except when required for disaster recovery, security, or legal reasons.

We process verified requests within the period required by applicable law. Timing may depend on the request, identity verification, system dependencies, and whether an exception or legal obligation applies. If we need additional information or more time where legally permitted, we will contact you.

Deleting through the application

If your current version of Chats Only displays a Delete Account option in account settings, you may use it and follow the confirmation prompts. If the option is unavailable, you cannot sign in, or you need help, email [email protected].

Uninstalling the application does not by itself delete your account or submit a deletion request.

Requesting access, correction, or a copy

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, object to, or receive a portable copy of certain personal information. You may also have the right to appeal a decision on a privacy request.

To request access or a copy before deleting your account, email [email protected] with the subject line “Data Access or Export Request.” Identify the account and describe the information or action you are requesting. We may verify your identity before responding.

How Chats Only approaches data safety

Purpose-limited use

We use information to operate discovery, matching, messaging, support, safety, security, and the other purposes described in our Privacy Policy.

Visibility awareness

Discovery content is intended to be discoverable. Private messages are delivered to their participants, who may still copy or share what they receive.

Service-provider controls

Providers supporting hosting, authentication, storage, analytics, moderation, communications, and security process information for defined service purposes.

Reasonable safeguards

We use administrative, technical, and organizational measures designed to protect information. No transmission or storage system can be guaranteed completely secure.

Steps you can take

  • Use a strong, unique password and keep login and verification codes private.
  • Review profile, discovery, location, and communication preferences regularly.
  • Do not publish information in discovery that you want to remain private.
  • Remember that another user may copy information or messages they can view.
  • Use mute, leave, block, and report controls when a conversation becomes unwanted or unsafe.
  • Contact support promptly if you suspect unauthorized account access or misuse of your information.
